Things that make ME happy, inspired by Half Glass Full!

The things that make me happy in life

  • Hot fresh scones with melting butter
  • the way my daughter jumps up and hugs and kisses me when shes really happy and excited
  • being kissed on the forehead when I'm sick by my 4 year old
  • one of my rainydaze cakes completed and sitting on the table longing to be looked at
  • fresh cut grass smell
  • waking up on the morning of something exciting and remembering why I had trouble getting to sleep
  • finally understanding something
  • cup of coffee steaming on a cold day
  • hearing children laugh in a playground
  • being told "I love you" by my daughter and husband
  • knowing that my dreams of having my dream family, house and life are not as far away as they used to be!
I'd like to thank @fayc for inspiring me to write this blog :)

The place where babies are showered!

My wonderful old boss Brooke is having her first baby and me being me, I LOVE a good baby, so I felt I had no choice but to sing it from the roof tops in the form of a cake.

With her up coming baby shower looming I had to decide pretty quick smart on a theme and after wild thoughts of ducks in baths and baby dragons hatching out of eggs I finally came up with what I thought to be the perfect idea.  I was given the instructions from the host, instruction 1: There is no theme, Instruction 2:We don't know what the baby is. hmmmm so I need to make a cake that is unisex and doesn't cater to any specific theme GREAT this was right up my alley!

I have to admit my timing wasn't perfect my husband forgot to tell me we where attending a family birthday party the night before 45mins away from home and I would be dropping him off at work (night shift) and picking him up at 5am the next morning. To top it off I wasn't able to make my perfect chocolate cake the night before as planned so I made it at 6am the next morning praying that it would cool in time.

as the time slipped away I started to panic my sugar paste wasn't hardening as fast as I had hoped, my cake wasn't cooling quick enugh and my prebought butter cream from the month before smelled kinda funky.

First job in my damage control was ditching the premade butter cream, following crumboss's blog post and video I very proudly made my very own batch of amazing tasting Swiss butter cream. (Crumbbss your my hero this you already know but seriously you saved my tail!) I will NEVER EVER go back to buying premade crap again.

The cake I just had to roll with, as I started constructing everything I realised I wasn't going to pull this one off as well as I had hoped, I have taken this experience as a learning curve and an experience I hope never to go through again.

I was quite proud of my cake even with its obvious imperfections, I think I am proud because once again I have shown myself that yes I am good at something other than eating chips in front of the telly!

Until next time

Keep calm and eat cupcakes!

Alice in Wonderland!

I promised my twitter followers a months ago I would post the photos and info from my daughters birthday bash on my new blog :) So here it is!

My day started at 3am when I got up and continued on with the cake and decorations, I will NEVER EVER do that again, everything went well and I had a good friend and her daughter come by early in the morning and continue setting everything up which was a fantastic help!!

The party itself was very good and all the kids had a wonderful time there was a small incident with my husband and the ONE job i gave him of being in charge of running the games and the music, first incident was that he didn't have any music and as it turned out I cleaned so well I couldn't find any either, the second was once all the kids had arrived and we were ready to start he decided he had stage fright and didn't want to run any of the games....he told me this while I was holding a tray of burning hot pin wheels and making a coffee for a parent NOT HAPPY! :D

After all that the kids had a nice time and my daughter was very proud to have all her friends there to celebrate.
